How to Measure a MOSI-2 Heating Element – A Step-by-Step Guide

by XuNero 21 Aug 2025 0 Comments

If you’re working with high-temperature dental or lab furnaces, chances are you’ve encountered a Molybdenum Disilicide (MOSI-2) heating element, . These components are incredibly efficient but also highly fragile.

Handling them improperly can lead to cracks or breaks, resulting in unexpected costs and furnace downtime. That’s why knowing how to measure your MOSI-2 element correctly is essential for ordering the right replacement—and avoiding unnecessary accidents.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through the three key measurements you need to take to correctly measure your heating elements . Let’s get started.

⚠️ Handle With Care!

Before we begin, remember:
MOSI-2 elements are ceramic-based and extremely brittle. Avoid twisting, bending, or dropping them. Always handle as you would fine glassware.

we’ve engineered custom packaging for each type of MOSI-2 heating element to ensure maximum protection during shipping. You can rest assured that your element will arrive safely and securely—so you can focus on your work without worrying about transport damage.

📏 Tools You Will Need

  • Digital Calipers – Highly recommended for precision

  • Metric Tape Measure – Acceptable if calipers aren’t available

  • Gloves – To avoid contamination and improve grip

💡 All measurements must be in millimeters.

📐 The 3 Key Measurements Needed

To use the online pricing calculator, you’ll need these three dimensions:

  1. Le (Heated Zone Length)

  2. Lu (Cold Terminal Length)

  3. A (Center-to-Center Distance Between Terminals)

1. Measuring Le – Heated(hot) Zone Length

What it is:
The length of the active part of the element that generates heat.

How to measure:
Start from the outer base of the hairpin bend and follow the curve upward until you see the element narrow down and change color or texture. This transition point marks the end of the heated zone.

🎥 Visual tip: The heated zone often has a smoother, darker appearance compared to the colder, grayer terminal.

Example:
If you measure ~80.2 mm, then the 80mm is the length of the hot zone.

2. Measuring Lu – Terminal(cold zone) Length

What it is:
The unheated section of the element from the transition point to the tip of the terminal.

How to measure:
Place your tape measure or caliper at the same transition point where the heated zone ends. Measure straight up to the very end of the terminal.

Example:
A measurement of ~120 mm.

Note: The website may round values to standard sizes—so measure as accurately as possible.

3. Measuring A – Terminal Spacing

What it is:
The distance between the centers of the two terminal ends.

How to measure:
Use digital calipers for the most accurate result. Measure from the center of one terminal tip to the center of the other.

Example:
the calipers show 25 mm, which is the most common distance for heating elements used in dental furnaces.

What is Lorem Ipsum? Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum. Why do we use it? It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).
